Barcelona FC is a football club that is known as one of the best to have ever played football. There are various reasons as to why they have managed to build this reputation for themselves in all corners of the globe, with the original ‘Tiki-Taka’ system having been created by them, as well as the fact that a certain Lionel Messi plays for them…

History

Of course, the entire history of Barcelona FC does not squarely fall on the shoulders of Lionel Messi, as La Blaugrana have been around a lot longer than he has and ever will be.

The club was formed in 1899 when Joan Gamper simply decided he wanted to create a new football club. 11 other football fans were also interested and answered an ad in a newspaper and as they say, the rest is history.

The Catalan outfit has become one of the most successful clubs in Europe and Spain throughout their existence, as they have managed to win numerous titles and pieces of silverware throughout their steeped history. A plethora of La Liga titles have been won, whilst they currently hold the record for the most amount of Copa del Rey Cups, as well.

In addition, Barcelona FC has managed to win numerous different UEFA Champions Leagues over the year, and are widely considered to be a favourite to win each edition that they feature in.

The club plays their home matches at the Camp Nou and has since 1957, having had a number of different homes prior to their move over 60 years ago. The stadium is one of the most iconic venues in the world, and has the ability to seat just under 100,000 fans (99,354)! It is the largest stadium in Europe, although just the fourth-biggest in the world.

Best Players & Managers

Barcelona FC has been known around the world for their brilliant football under the guidance of some exceptional managers, however, those who have been in charge have had a wide array of talented superstars to call upon throughout the decades that the club has existed.

In a who’s who list of incredibly talented and gifted players to have ever pulled on the famous blue-and-red shirt, names include the likes of Johan Cruyff, Bernd Schuster, Andoni Zubizarreta, Diego Maradona, José Mari Bakero, Julio Salinas, Luis Enrique, Gary Lineker, Hristo Stoichkov, Michael Laudrup, Ronald Koeman, Gheorghe Hagi, Luís Figo, Romário, Deco, Rivaldo, Ronaldo, Patrick Kluivert, Ronaldinho, Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernández, Andrés Iniesta, Gerard Piqué, Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez.

As alluded to, there are also a number of top managers to have taken charge at the club in the past, as well, with Johan Cruyff, Sir Bobby Robson, Louis van Gaal, Frank Rijkaard, Pep Guardiola, Luis Enrique and Ernesto Valverde among just some of the names who have been incredibly successful. 

Historic & Memorable moments

One of the most iconic and perhaps game-changing moments in the history of Barcelona FC was when Pep Guardiola was brought in. Despite the club having had a huge amount of success prior to his managerial career, he used the La Masia academy in a way no other manager had, and introduced the famous ‘Tiki-Taka’ style of play; a system that would now be used by many clubs around the world.

During the four years, he had at the club, Guardiola won everything he could with them, whilst turning Barcelona FC into a world-beating force that most teams would fear going up against.
