In modern history, Manchester City is a football club that has taken the game by storm as they have managed to provide themselves with a rather colourful history that will make any club envious and perhaps even jealous.
With huge footballing names such as Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Vincent Kompany and Phil Foden, as well as a manager of the calibre of Pep Guardiola, the English Premier League side is one of football’s powerhouses.
Manchester City’s team was founded in 1880 as a direct rival to the club that has since become known as Manchester United, as the city of Manchester provides two huge clubs.
Of course, whilst they have had a number of years away from the top flight of the English football pyramid, they can be found to be at the very top of the ladder these days, as they have left the days of playing in the lower divisions behind them.
Known as the Citizens, Manchester City has gone on to win numerous titles domestically, with numerous First Division/Premier League titles to their name, as well as FA Cups and League titles.
Playing their games at the modern Etihad Stadium, the Sky Blues have the potential to play in front of 55,017 fans when at home, with their stadium holding the fifth-largest amount of spectators in the English Premier League.
Prior to moving to the stadium in 2003, Maine Road was their home for 80 years.
Best Players & Managers
There are a number of footballing talent to have played for Manchester City in recent history, whilst there will continue to be even more in the future, as well.
Notwithstanding their emergence as a powerhouse in the 00s and 10s, the Citizens have also had numerous stars such as Denis Law, Bert Trautman – who famously continued to play in goal as he sustained a broken neck during the 1956 final, Colin Bell and Tommy Johnson all managed to establish their own legacies at the club.
More recently, individuals such as Yaya Toure, Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne have all proved influential, whilst young blood such as Ruben Dias and Phil Foden has made incredible improvements to the Citizens.
Much of Manchester City’s success has largely been down to the guidance of Pep Guardiola, as the Spaniard showed everyone why he is widely regarded to be the best there has ever been. Indeed, other top managers to have been in charge include Roberto Mancini and Manuel Pellegrini, with both having had just a snippet of the success that Guardiola has had.
Historic & Memorable moments
There are many different historic moments that can be thought of when thinking about Manchester City, although their 100-point season in the English Premier League might just be one of their crowning achievements.
The 2017/18 campaign saw the Citizens reach the record points haul after being able to go on a run that featured 18 consecutive wins. The winning margin was a huge 19 points, with rivals Manchester United sitting adrift of them in second place.
Anyone that has watched English football will also remember the iconic moment when Sergio Aguero netted against Queens Park Rangers in the 2011/12 English Premier League season. The Argentine scored the goal that won them the title in the 93rd minute of the game to seal a 3-2 win and pip United to the title.
